Artist's Description

A giant cottonwood tree bursts from the earth and towers more than a hundred feet over the shore of Green bay. It is believed to be the largest tree in Wisconsin with a circumference of nearly 30 feet, and is named for the artist's mother-in-law, who protected the tree from destruction by a neighbor's construction. The massive trunk's deep crevices are depicted in blues and purples, gradually shading to tones of yellow, orange, and green of the canopy, warmed by the last rays of the sunset. The viewer is in neck-craning position at the base of the tree.
The painting was created using the pouring technique, which incorporates multiple layers of color and the brushing, spraying, and stamping of masking fluid.
